Texas’s only natural shell beach is a short bike ride from the park. Surf fish from the shoreline for redfish, black drum, and whiting. No crowds, no fees, no hassle. Sunrise sessions here are unforgettable.
A free public fishing pier on Matagorda Bay, just a short drive from the park. Excellent for speckled trout, redfish, and black drum. The pier extends into productive bay water and is accessible to anglers of all ages and abilities.
Wade fishing and kayak fishing on the Matagorda Bay grass flats is world-class. Shell reefs, grass beds, and channel edges hold redfish and trout throughout the summer. Launch from nearby ramps and work the flats at first light.
Port Lavaca’s Lighthouse Beach offers a free public fishing pier, a bird sanctuary, and calm bay water perfect for families and casual anglers. The historic lighthouse makes for a great photo backdrop after a morning on the water.
